Here's what breaking the combo counter with infinites in many of Capcom's biggest fighting games looks like

Desk brings us another interesting fighting game breakdown

Whenever you land a combo in a fighting game, you'll see a number on screen pop up at the end of the sequence that tells you how many hits you've managed to deliver in one go. The combo counter is a good way for fans to keep up with the action, but in many games it also lets the players know when a combo is tight and inescapable.

Of course, just like most things in fighting games, the combo counter can be broken, and combo wizard Desk has put together a video showing us what it looks like when this happens in many of Capcom's biggest fighting games. If you're in the mood for some good, old fashioned fighting game oddities, be sure to move onward.

The goal here is to find out how the combo counter for each game behaves when it is pushed beyond its limits. Every game has a maximum number the counter will display, and with the use of infinite combos, Desk is able to break past those limits and show us what happens.

Starting with Street Fighter Alpha 2, the custom combo system in conjunction with a glitch allows for players to perform infinite combos. In doing so, Desk can bring the combo counter up to 99, but still goes well beyond 99 hits with his sequence.

As noted in the video, the combo counter does not exceed 99 hits despite Desk landing over 200 hits, however, when 256 hits is reached, the counter will actually reset.

Weirder is the behavior for Darkstalkers 3 and Super Street Fighter 2. When these games see their combo limits pushed and forced beyond what they're capable of handling, we actually see graphical glitches and anomalies come into play.

Desk also runs these tests for more modern Capcom fighting games such as Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Street Fighter X Tekken, so be sure to check out the full showcase below.
