NetherRealm Studios' take on the DC universe with Injustice: Gods Among Us quickly became one of the most popular of the past decade, and fans will soon be able to experience its story in a new way.

An Injustice animated film is coming out this year, and The Hollywood Reporter got ahold of new details surrounding the movie's plot and star-studded voice cast.

As for the script, the new adaptation of Injustice's darker worldis reportedly pulling from both the original game and Injustice: Gods Among Us: Year One comic run detailing the fall of Superman.

The Joker pulls off one of his most deadly and consequential schemes ever by tricking Superman into killing Lois Lane and destroying Metropolis.

The Man of Steel obviously doesn't take this well and builds his own regime of "protecting the Earth" by any means necessary while Batman and other members of the Justice League break away to start a resistance to stop their former friends.

No mention is made to alternate reality versions of the characters coming to join the fight like the first game.

Unfortunately, the voice cast of the video games will not be reprising their roles for the film, meaning no Kevin Conroy Batman, Richard Epcar Joker or George Newbern Superman, but you'll still probably recognize many of the names in the movie.

Leading roles are being handled by Justin Hartley (Smallville, This is Us) as Superman and Anson Mount (Star Trek, The Evil Within) as Batman while the rest of the casting includes Gillian Jacobs as Harley Quinn, Kevin Pollak as Joker, Laura Bailey as Lois Lane, Brandon Michael Hall as Cyborg, Brian T. Delaney as Green Lantern, Edwin Hodge as Mr. Terrific and Killer Croc, Oliver Hudson as Plastic Man, Yuri Lowenthal as Mirror Master, Flash and Shazam, Derek Phillips as Nightwing and Aquaman, Anika Noni Rose as Catwoman, Reid Scott as Green Arrow, Janet Varney as Wonder Woman and Fred Tatasciore as Captain Atom.

Injustice currently has no set release date, but it is scheduled to release sometime this fall.

The debut trailer for the film will be included as a bonus feature on Batman: The Long Halloween, Part Two, releasing on July 27.
