The re-redemption arc

Skullgirls was arguably snubbed from a spot at the Evolution Championship Series when it first released all the way back in 2012, and it seemed like they'd finally get their shot last year with Evo 2020... until that event ended up being canceled.

This year will be a bit different, however, as Hidden Variable revealed today that Skullgirls 2nd Encore will be joining the ranks of Evo 2021 Online as a mainstage event finally.

Interestingly, Skullgirls will be the only game to be taking part in both the main event and official side tournaments with the former being ran on PC while the latter is going to be played on PlayStation 4.

The game that's about to get its first official new DLC character in years with Annie of the Stars is going to be standing next to the likes of Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition, Mortal Kombat 11: Ultimate, Tekken 7 and Guilty Gear Strive.

Skullgirls brackets will be available in the regions of Latin America, Europe, North America and Asia for the main Evo Online while PS4 tournaments will start playing on July 15.

Like the rest of the titles, Skullgirls' mainstage action will be split between two weekends from August 6–8 and 13–15 with registration closing on Jul. 15.

No further information has been revealed as to how the prize pools will be split among games and regions, as the main Evo page still only lists a $75,000+ total winnings available for the return of the largest fighting game tournament in the world next month.
