Secret 'death' animation discovered during one of Street Fighter 2's most iconic attacks; here's what actually happens when Akuma lands a Raging Demon

Instead of his usual modus operandi of thinking up of crazy and creative combos, Desk is exploring a very well-known, already existing one. With the help of some modding tools that allow him to see behind the scenes, he's gone through much of Capcom's Raging Demon catalogue to see what actually happens to the game sprites during the iconic move's blinding screen flash.

In Super Street Fighter 2 X, the Japanese version of Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, developers inserted an animation of M. Bison that you never actually see at any point in the experience. During the flash after Akuma lands his Demon on the evil dictator, the demonic fighter is actually holding Bison by his hair as his body sits in a lifeless slump on the ground.

First seeing the mysterious Akuma suddenly slide into the final boss battle of the Street Fighter 2 arcade ladder and straight up murder the formidable M. Bison in just a quick white screen flash made for a feeling unlike any other in the fighting game experience. The Raging Demon was essentially billed as "so fast and powerful it's incomprehensible to the senses," and we absolutely ate that up and then asked for seconds.

Indeed Capcom continued to put the Demon into many fighting titles after that, and though some stylistic choices in animation changed it up a tad visually, the idea was always the same: a sudden rush toward the opponent resulting in a quick grab and followed by a blank screen complimented by the sounds of thousands of simultaneous blows.

When the dust clears and the player's view returns to normal, the victim is found sprawled on the ground with a near-lifeless body. Thanks to some investigative work by Desk, we get to see what actually happens (animation wise) during this iconic attack. While most times the characters are simply frozen in hit stun or non-existent during the process, that's not the case for the aforementioned version of Street Fighter 2.

While this secret Bison animation is easily the most interesting of Desk's findings, there are some other finds of intrigue in titles like Marvel vs. Capcom and Street Fighter Alpha 3. Characters, such as Guy, Shadow Lady Chun-Li, Evil Ryu, and others garnered their own versions of the Raging Demon, and we get to peek behind these curtains as well.
