Finishing moves were planned for the cancelled Capcom Fighting All-Stars but required inputs were extremely difficult

Capcom Fighting All-Stars was a game that was being developed by ex-SNK employees who joined Capcom in the early 2000s who wanted to make a quick impression on the rest of the company. To save time, 3D assets from the development of the cancelled Capcom vs. SNK 3 who imported into Capcom Fighting All-Stars. Inevitably, this idea would also be scrapped due to numerous issues.

Uniquely, there were actually plans to incorporate finishing moves into Capcom Fighting All-Stars. These would've been similar to Mortal Kombat's "Fatality" system, though without the gore.

"If you pressed the start button during your character's introduction before the fight, and if you won, you'd get the 'Dramatic Finish,'" said the CFN blog centered around Capcom Fighting All-Stars. Each character had a finishing blow animation that could be triggered upon entering in a super-difficult command."

Ingrid, a character that was originally meant to debut in Capcom Fighting All-Stars but first appeared in Capcom Fighting Evolution instead, had a finishing blow titled Sun Octopus. To perform this technique, the player would have to input (numpad notation for directions) 8, 4, 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 5, 2 and then press light punch.

For better or worse, the mechanic would never see the light of day in a Capcom fighting game. Maybe it could be incorporated once Street Fighter vs. Mortal Kombat becomes a reality. Still, the gore from Mortal Kombat would have to be dramatically toned down for Capcom to agree to something like that.

Thanks to Fatal1ty_93_RUS on Reddit, we can see just how crazy inputs got for some finishing blow attacks.
