Is NetherRealm Studios being overly sensitive? Street Fighter 6 may not appear as soon as we'd hoped

Mortal Kombat developers NetherRealm Studios find themselves getting a little extra heat right now following their decision to suddenly disqualify a participant in their online Pro Kompetition for using the custom variation name to express playful distaste in the current balance of the game.

Titaniumtigerzz and his Sheeva made it into the top eight of the weekend's Pro Kompetition tournament, but was removed from the event mid match for the variation name "WhyDidNRSdoThis." We get into the particulars of this situation and try to draw some lines in terms of if and where NRS is right to police their online events in this way, and whether or not they're being overly sensitive to criticism.

According to the player, he was initially banned from the rest of the Pro Kompetition, but NRS has changed this call and limited his disqualification to only the aforementioned event. The conversation here naturally turns to examine whether or not this kind of call to try to censor naysayers might ironically do more harm than good to the company's charisma in the public eye, especially given the fact that they've not yet given any kind of public statement (despite our and other outlets' requests) on the matter.

We then transition to examining Street Fighter 5's balance of offense and defense from a less refined, more emotional point of view. We recently featured a clip of a hype Gill sequence, but found that it also highlighted the glaring imbalance at one of the game's most fundamental levels.

With Season 5 officially kicking off in just about a month's time (and SF5 getting something of a makeover when that happens) we have to hope for some substantial changes in this department from Capcom.

Our final segment then looks to the updated timeline for Street Fighter 6 given COVID-19 turbulence over the last year or so. While we expected to see this game pop up in 2022, we're not so sure that's how things will play out anymore.

29:13 - How immensely would you need to buff V-Reversals to balance SF5's offense right now?
32:48 - Where should our expectations be concerning balance on this level?
44:09 - Street Fighter 6 is probably delayed, when should we expect to see it?
