Guilty Gear Strive's Arcade Mode features branching paths and 2v1 battles as detailed in new single-player mode breakdown

No real word yet on how story and the final incarnation of online will play out

Guilty Gear Strive is revving up to become the first big fighting game release of 2021 though there's still a lot about the game we have to learn before launch arrives.

Arc System Works looking to try and change that now, however, as they've updated Strive's official website to break down the various single-player modes that'll be available in the cross-generational fighting game.

Top of the list is of course the game's Tutorial which will feature Sol and Ky giving a lowdown on the basics of combat that will apparently adjust itself depending on the player's inputs and skill.

Arcade Mode is perhaps the most intriguing of the bunch considering they confirm runs will have branching paths that are determined by performance in matches and possibly other factors.

These different lines through will provide additional story content and conversations for characters along with unique opportunities like 2v1 fights with the aim to give the arcade run replayability. It's kinda unclear though whether the additional character will simply be an assist, tag-in partner or something else.

Strive will also come packing a Mission Mode that will task players with completing various objectives, like grabbing or punishing guarding opponents, along with more specific character match up knowledge tips.

The user interface for missions also appears to confirm that the game's strange avatar system from last year's beta is still going to be present in the full release though we have yet to see if lobbies have undergone any changes yet.

Survival Mode is a pretty standard inclusion for fighting game players with more powerful / boss versions of characters popping up after clearing several wins in a row.

Training Mode will of course be a one of the most important tools for learning and improving at the game, so it's nice to see judging by the sheer amount of counter-attack setting options that there's hopefully a good amount of depth to the ways it can be used.

Combo trials seem to be wrapped up into the training as well.

Versus and Story are not included with this breakdown, but ArcSys teases that they have devised a way to find players online who possess similar abilities to oneself.

Given what we've seen so far, Strive's mode offerings seem fairly standard for modern fighting games with maybe a few fun twists thrown in though there's still apparently more they're holding back for now.

One thing we do know though is that the game will not feature a typical ranking system, so we'll probably be learning more about that implementation when the open beta is coming up whenever that occurs.

Guilty Gear Strive is currently scheduled to release on April 9, 2021 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC with players being able to access the beta and release early for pre-ordering the Deluxe or Ultimate Editions of the game.
