After months of waiting and an unexpected delay that saw disappointment spread throughout the fighting game community, SNK turned things around yesterday by surprising fans with the big first reveal of King of Fighters 15. The trailer gave viewers a quick glimpse at some of the cinematic maneuvers that can be found in the game, while simultaneously revealing several new fighters that weren't initially confirmed.

Keen-eyed fans have been combing over the quick trailer since its release last night to breakdown what they're seeing and search for potential Easter eggs. As luck would have it, Twitter user ATRyoSakazaki spotted a couple of quick cameos in the background of one of KOF15's stages shown in the trailer that come from another combat-centric SNK title.

Several stages were briefly shown during the presentation, with one of the earliest ones featured appearing to be a large stadium. Kyo and K' are seen performing powerful attacks on this stage, and in the background we can see what looks to be two wrestlers from SNK's arcade game 3 Count Bout.

The warriors in the background appear to be Terry Rogers and Master Barnes, two of ten playable wrestlers that can be chosen in the game.

3 Count Bout was originally released back in 1993 on the Neo Geo AES, and you can actually find it on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch today. If you're interested in checking it out, you'll find a fast paced four-button wrestling title with some interesting mechanics in it — such as a gauge that pops up on screen when two wrestlers lock horns and prompts the players to mash the hardest in order to win the exchange.

While this likely isn't a sign that Rogers and Barnes will become playable characters in King of Fighters 15, it is a treat for fans of SNK's rich gaming history to witness. The company has been known for having some of the most intricate and impressive fighting game backdrops around, and looking deep into them almost feels like a Where's Waldo experience at times.

We've seen characters from other games featured in their backgrounds before, and it looks like SNK is going to keep players scanning each and every stage here with King of Fighters 15. The upcoming title is expected to release sometime in 2021.
