Tokido wants to see Street Fighter 6 release in 2021

He's also a bit nervous Capcom hasn't shown the game yet

Street Fighter 5 is quickly approaching it's fifth anniversary from the game's initial launch in 2016, and while there's still a whole season of content coming, some are certainly already looking ahead to what's coming next.

Rohto|Tokido is apparently one of those players since he recently said he hopes to see Street Fighter 6 release sometime in 2021 and that he's nervous Capcom hasn't shown anything for the game yet.

These statements came during Tokido's first appearance on Katsuhiro Harada's aptly named new video series 'Harada's Game Bar,' where the longtime Tekken director chats with guests while enjoying an alcoholic beverage or two.

"I think a new series entry will be released next year [2021]," said Tokido back in November as translated by Amora Sensei. "We have new platforms like PlayStation 5 out now, so it'd be good timing to have a new game. We've played this game for a long time."

The former EVO champion postulates that the coronavirus pandemic is the reason why we haven't seen Street Fighter 6 yet while maybe probing the Bandai Namco boss for any information he may have.

That fact that Capcom hasn't revealed any information about their next fighting game makes Tokido nervous, but Harada tells him not to worry too much about it.

Although development has been disrupted across the industry because of COVID-19, Harada says that actually releasing a new title right now isn't a problem because video game sales have actually gone way up during the pandemic.

Street Fighter 6 hasn't officially been announced by Capcom yet, but last year's major hacking of the company appeared to leak that the fighting game is at least a good ways into development currently.

This was recorded back in November before we learned that Dan wouldn't be releasing in SF5 until February, but there's still technically a chance a new game could come out this year.

Capcom has a consistent strategy of releasing titles less than one year after first announcing them, so if the company were to reveal Street Fighter 6 at Capcom Cup next month, it could hit the market by December although that seems like a stretch at this point.

Tokido also says later on in the discussion that Street Fighter 5 "was not good" when it originally launched with only a small amount of content and other problems in its first year, which he does not want to repeat for SF6.

This Capcom Cup also marks the first time Tokido will have missed the finals tournament in Street Fighter 5's history after BST|Daigo Umehara and RB|Gachikun won the Asian Qualifiers, and RB|Luffy took the final voter spot to round out the player pool.
