Amid today's Winter Update showcase stream Capcom showcased brand new gameplay and a V-System breakdown for the first DLC character of Season 5: Dan Hibiki.

The bumbling oaf joke character was first revealed for the game back in August of 2020 when developers unveiled plans for fifth and final season for Street Fighter 5. We got a ton of new details today, including his release date: February 22.

We've seen some of Dan's attacks and maneuvers in previous showcases, but today's trailer hones in on the specifics of both of his V-Skills and V-Triggers. There's also, of course, plenty of updated boastful taunts from the master of Saikyo.

Dan's V-Skill 1 allows him to cancel out of his special moves with a few various, flamboyant Dan taunt animations. It actually helps build both characters' V-Gauges, staying in step with Dan's classic theme of being comically worse than his fellow combatants. Though it may not be the strongest ability in the game, developers do clarify that it's relatively easy to use.

Dan's V-Skill 2 is also a cancel, but this one allows the Saikyo master to cancel out of normal attacks and make combos that were otherwise impossible, possible. Similar to V-Skill 1, this attack also benefits both characters' V-Gauges. This seems to allow him to do some freestyle combos and keep matches very interesting.

His V-Trigger 1 sees him fire off a massive Haoh-Gadoken. This attack can be used to put opponents at disadvantage on block or to score some extra damage in combos, but will almost certainly be used more than once in most rounds. This attack can be charged, and will cause a wall bounce or guard crush if it lands when at max power.

V-Trigger 2 is called Tenchi Saikyo No Kata and is a timed Trigger that gives Dan enhanced versions of both his fireball and his uppercut attacks. This grants invincibility to his uppercut and adds advantageous plus frames to his fireball. Finally, players will also be able to perform additional versions of these attacks by holding a directional input while doing them.

Developers also showed Dan's Battle Costume, which sees him shirtless with the Tengu face mask he's been spotted wearing in previous appearances. This mask is a joking nod to SNK's Mr. Karate, who dons a similar accessory. Check it out in this gallery of stills from today's showcase:

What we saw in this showcase was recorded back in December of 2020 and is still technically under development. As such, the content is subject to change between now and when it actually hits consoles.
