Idle animations in King of Fighters 15 appear to have a ton of new details compared to its predecessor
Which by that I mean they actually do stuff now
The King of Fighters 14 certainly presented quite a few growing pains for both the developers and players by moving the franchise into 3D graphics, which they now seem to be building on with better models, a new engine and probably a good bit more that they haven't shown yet.
SNK apparently wasn't quite done with Team Hero just yet, as they've now shown off the idle animations for Shun'ei, Meitenkun and Benimaru. That may not immediately sound like the biggest deal on its face, but it actually has some cool implications for the amount of detail being put into the new game.
Shun'ei's is the most altered of the bunch, as he now breaks his fighting stance after a little while of waiting to do the cliched tired neck rubbing and then just stand there staring down his opponent.
Meitenkun has some actual sleep bubbles pop out of his head as he stumbles around with a new animation added in where he hugs the pillow to his face quite happily.
Admittedly, Benimaru didn't change much aside from a more enthusiastic arm flip, but overall these alterations show that SNK is looking to put in a lot more of those extra details like we used to see in their 2D games.
Most of the attack animations we've seen so far do still use the same key frames and timing as KOF14, but they also have completely overhauled effects and smaller visual touch ups like Shun'ei's jacket and tie moving around a lot more now.
Considering it is now Wednesday, a new King of Fighters 15 character trailer will likely be dropping later tonight which could be for Kyo, Mai, Leona, K' or someone we haven't seen yet.
For right now though, we can enjoy some nice animations and rockin' tunes.
