Luke will have a big impact on the future of Street Fighter
The 45th and final Street Fighter 5 character was revealed this week as Luke, a brand new franchise entrant, was shown off during Capcom's Summer Update stream.
This mixed martial arts brawler looks interesting enough from what we've seen in his reveal trailer, but developers have made it a point to highlight the effects Season 5's characters will have on Street Fighter 5's story, and it seems Luke is being set up to have a bigger impact than perhaps anyone else... perhaps leading us directly into Street Fighter 6.
During their presentation, both Director, Takayuki Nakayama, and Producer Shuhei Matsumoto were sure to drive home the idea that Luke would have significant contributions to the world of Street Fighter. Nakayama specifically said the character would be "giving us a glimpse into the future," for instance.
We learned earlier this year that Capcom is setting up for a time travel revision via Rose, but many pieces of this puzzle have yet to be revealed.
There are a handful of theories going around about the identity of Luke, specifically whether or not he's tied to or an evolution of other Capcom figures, but we've come down on one particular thread that looks most likely to us.
We also dig into some of Luke's basic style as we got to see a handful of his attacks showcased during his trailer. Capcom hasn't yet offered any additional information on his maneuvers and V-System, but there's a bit to be garnered with the few seconds we've seen thus far.
