Summer Update event for Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition live stream
It's been a long wait since the Spring Update stream, but today's the big day. Capcom will be revealing information about Oro and Akira Kazama in Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition during today's Summer Update broadcast.
There are also plenty of reasons to believe that Capcom might unveil the identity of Street Fighter 5's very last character. When the date of the Summer Update stream was announced, it was noted that we were getting "more" than just information about Oro and Akira.
Compared to the Spring Update stream's 30 minute runtime, this one is slated to run for a full hour. For the last broadcast, we were provided with ample information about Rose and Oro's movesets, followed by a sneak peek at Akira at the very end.
With a lot of Oro's moveset already showcased, this means that much of the presentation will probably be focused on Akira and the "more" that was promised.
Although we don't have confirmation just yet, it feels likely that Season 5's final character will be a male. Like Oro, this unknown character will be getting 3 alternate costumes. Notably, Rose and Akira (the two females of Season 5) are getting 5 costumes apiece.
It's also worth mentioning that today just happens to be the 20th anniversary for Capcom vs. SNK 2. It's a bit crazy to think that SNK might get a guest character in Street Fighter 5, but the stars really seem to be lining up for that possibility.
While the sneak peek at Akira Kazama told us a lot about her moveset in Street Fighter 5, we haven't gotten a detailed breakdown of what she can do quite yet. We know that one of her V-Triggers will have her older brother, Daigo Kazama, helping out with that True Massive Back technique of his.
Being that Akira hails from the Rival School series, we're expecting her to bring a few mechanics from that series into Street Fighter 5. For example, her sneak peek showed that she's capable of performing some rather impressive air combos, which is something she is clearly inheriting from Rival Schools mechanics.
In preparation for today's stream, Capcom has released some sick new artwork for Oro and Akira (which includes Daigo). We also heard some voice lines from Oro's voice actor where he talks about the upcoming broadcast.
Oro and Akira are both slated for a Summer 2021 release window. As for the as of yet unrevealed final combatant, they will be released in Fall 2021.
We should be learning the exact dates in which Oro and Akira are made available during today's stream.
You'll want to tune in at 3:00 p.m. PDT / 6:00 p.m. EDT to catch all the action as it unfolds. Do note that the stream will be taking place exclusively on Twitch (via Twitch Gaming), so it won't be possible to watch it live on YouTube.
