Another sick Steve montage is making me rethink the Minecraft rep's potential in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

When Steve was first released as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, I was unsure of the character's viability in a competitive setting due to his poor mobility and stubby reach.

Towards the end of 2020, a player known as Paru uploaded a Steve montage that showcased some of the crazier things this fighter can do. Another Steve montage has been uploaded to Twitter by Yonni that further demonstrates that Steve is capable of some insanely hype sequences. Was Steve a sleeper top tier all along?

This latest montage demonstrates an interesting interaction with Steve's TNT while it sits atop a platform. Similar to Snake's grenades, the TNT has something called a "friendly fire hitbox."

The hit of the explosion that hits the other characters and the one that hits the owner are different. More specifically, the TNT explosion hitbox that's intended to hurt Steve is smaller than the normal hitbox.

Several times during the montage, Yonni uses Steve's up tilt from below to trigger the TNT switch. While the opponent gets blown up, Steve remains unharmed.

Yonni also seems quite adept at using block generation to extend his combos into smash attacks. Under normal circumstances, most characters aren't able to hit smash attacks while so high in the air, but Steve can create platforms at will.
