From a Project X Zone fighting game to a smelly Guilty Gear, here's the best April Fool's Day jokes from around the FGC
Is that tier list fake or real? Who knows anymore
April Fool's Day is a tradition that most people tend to either love or hate depending on which side of the pranks they find themselves on, and the fighting game community certainly isn't immune to the shenanigans.
From dream crossover titles to Wi-Fi only tournaments, we've gathered together the best April Fool's Day jokes from around the FGC.
Most developers seem to be holding back here in 2021, but Capcom and Arc System Works at least got in on the spirit of the day in completely different ways.
The bulk of jokes are coming out of the players side of things from taking the time to create a fake tier list video to denouncing their mains for being the cause of all of their problems.
Some even went so far as to create mock up game and character reveals that would certainly be crowd pleasers if they were indeed real.
Let's start out with one of them now.
Project X Zone Fighters
A new Versus-styled fighting game has been absent in the FGC since Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, so PheNOM Poyo swung for the fences for the biggest crossover imagineable that would make everyone lose their minds.
Thus was born Project X Zone Fighters as an expansion to the previous strategy games that featured Capcom, Sega and Bandai Namco characters. This one goes a few extra steps further, however, by adding SNK and Arc System Works to the mix for what would be the largest mashup this side of Super Smash Bros.

Guilty Gear Strive Scratch 'n Sniff Edition
Speaking of ArcSys, they decided to take the whole Smell of the Game thing a little too seriously with a Scratch 'n Sniff edition of Guilty Gear Strive.
But what would it actually smell like?

Larry Lurr's Tier List
Smash Ultimate pro Larry Lurr released a 44-minute tier list video for the latest version of the game that doesn't immediately stand out as egregious, but the closer you look, the more things just look wrong.
His attempts at trying to hide his constant smile help give it away too.
Wi-Fi Only Tekken 7
NYC Tekken shifts their focus to expand to a wider pool of players who only use wireless connections to play their fighting games.
What could go wrong?
In order to better server the Tekken community we've decided to shift focus to an underserved portion of the community: WIFI players. We will be discontinuing all other forms of tournaments and focusing on our new series and direction!

Goenitz in King of Fighters 15
Goenitz's chances of joining the roster of The King of Fighters 15 shot up higher than it has in over a decade with Yashiro's recent reveal, so Oyaji-G put together a fake "trailer reaction" video for the villain that I don't really know how to describe.
HungryBox Drops Jigglypuff
Liquid|Hungrbox's Jigglypuff is perhaps one of the scariest foes to face in all of fighting games, but the Melee god announced today he was partially dropping the Pokemon to pick up Sheik.
Other players have made similar joke posts like EG|SonicFox opting to put down Joker in Mortal Kombat 11.
I don’t think it’s doable anymore, so here goes. I gotta do it.

I’m dropping Puff for Sheik vs Marth in Melee. I think that the matchup possibilities right now for Puff are rapidly dwindling with pivot tippers becoming more and more guaranteed.

For Honor: Playground Edition
For Honor is opting for a more PG approach to the standard violent action by replacing every weapon with foam versions that only make squeaky toy sound effects on hit to gain a more PG audience.
For Honor is about to become a playground for warriors...literally. On April 1st, For Honor: Playground Edition will offer an alternative take on the brutal fighting game. Grab your favorite toys and hop into the playground! pic.twitter.com/i8pVor1szS

Neco Drop 2
We already covered this one yesterday, but Capcom continued their tradition of releasing April Fool's Day mini-games for Street Fighter 5 with Neco Drop 2.
The sequel is another puzzle game tasking players to collect cute cat versions of the world warriors including the Season 5 cast of Dan, Rose, Oro and Akira this time around plus a story mode.
