Could Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition's final 'Season 5' fighter be a guest character from Arika's EX Fighting Layer?

Guest characters appearing in fighting games has become a bit of a norm in the last few years. Although Capcom has technically been adding guests to the Street Fighter series from Final Fight and Rival Schools (with the recently announced Akira Kazama), they've been taking the "guests" from Capcom's other intellectual properties.

Earlier this week, Kairi from EX Fighting Layer was made into a crossover costume for Ryu. Interestingly enough, Kairi and Fighting EX Layer are properties owned by Arika, not Capcom.

Kairi made his debut appearance in Street Fighter EX, a collaboration of sorts between Capcom and Arika. This game not only featured classic Street Fighter characters like Ryu and Chun-Li, but also saw the first appearances of Arika's Kairi and Skullomania.

As such, this suggests that the world of Fighting EX Layer is connected to the world of Street Fighter. This is similar to the connections between Street Fighter to Final Fight and Rival Schools.

Notably, there's even a Shadaloo character profile that provides information on Kairi from Street Fighter EX.

If someone from Fighting EX Layer were to make a guest appearance in Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition, then who should it be? One might think that Kairi has already been disconfirmed since he became a costume for Ryu.

However, it's worth mentioning that Urien was able to (and is still able to) don a costume that makes him look like Gill before Gill was made into a playable character.

Other possibilities include Allen Snider, Blair Dame, Darun Mister, Doctrine Dark, Garuda, Hokuto, Skullomania, and many other choices.

Of the Season 5 roster, this final mysterious challenger is tied with Oro in having the least number of costumes upon their launch. Considering Capcom's tendency to give female characters the most costumes on average, this seems to suggest that the fifth fighter is male rather than female.

Should a character from Fighting EX Layer make a guest appearance in Street Fighter 5, then it would set a new precedent for the Street Fighter series. It's entirely possible that Capcom could be waiting to gauge reactions to such an announcement. If well-received, it might be a more common scenario in Street Fighter 6.
