Capcom went almost 10 months without updating the Extra Battle mode in Street Fighter 5 with new content which had many wondering if they were done for good though that was kinda thrown out earlier this week with the game's first big crossover with another fighting game outside of the company.

Ryu's Kairi costume from Fighting EX Layer is now available to unlock in Champion Edition at a much lower cost than any other addition to the Fight Money-based mode.

Instead of the standard four-week part collecting missions they've done in the past, players will only need to beat Ryu one time for the measly price of 500 FM.

This will also nab users costume colors 1–8 as opposed to the normal two though numbers nine and ten can only be unlocked by completing certain missions which will not go live until tomorrow, September 17, at 9 p.m. PT.

Both the FEXL costume and color missions will be available until October 1, so players will have two weeks to secure them before they go into the vault for who knows how long.

Kairi first appeared in Street Fighter EX which was developed by Arika as a 3D entry into the series under SF2 designer Akira Nishitani.

This seemingly marks the first time in 20 years the companies have collaborated in a game since Street Fighter EX 3 released all the way back in 2000.

Arika owns the rights to their original characters from the EX series which they used to spin-off into their own new fighting game in Fighting EX Layer two years ago. It's still seeing updates as well considering the indie title recently received a rollback netcode update and Wi-Fi indicator for online matches.

It'll be interesting to see if anything more comes out of this new partnership between Capcom and Arika though both of their current games are very deep / at the end of their development cycles now.
