Update: Capcom vs. Tezuka is leaving the museum and coming home soon in the form of a new artbook. Additional information and images have been added to the original story below.

Osamu Tezuka is often referred to as the father of manga and anime in Japan for creating icons like Astro Boy, and soon his life's works will be crossing over with Capcom though it unfortunately won't be in fighting game form.

The Osamu Tezuka Memorial Hall announced they will soon be holding a special exhibit called Capcom vs. Osamu Tezuka Characters, and they did so by releasing an old-school Versus-styled poster of both company's stars from Bengus himself.

One thing that's immediately neat to see is all of the characters who've never appeared in a Capcom vs. game in a way that represents what they could have looked like in the original Marvel vs. Capcom games.

There's Resident Evil's Leon S. Kennedy, a Monster Hunter, John Talbain from Darkstalkers, Masamune Date and Mega Man's Dr. Light plus Dr. Wily for good measure.

It's also awesome to see newer characters like Phoenix Wright and Viewtiful Joe go back and enjoy some 2D-era fighting game goodness alongside Tezuka's roster of Astro Boy, Black Jack, Kimba the White Lion and others all in Bengus' signature style.

Newer players might recognize Bengus for his infamous Street Fighter 5 story illustrations, but he also served as the main fighting game character illustrator from Super Street Fighter 2 through Marvel vs. Capcom 2 where he produced some of the most iconic artworks in the genre's history.

The Capcom vs. Tezuka exhibit itself will open starting October 23 and run through February 23, 2021 at the Osamu Tezuka Manga Museum in Takarazuka, Japan.

This exhibit's main draw is showcasing artwork from Capcom artists and designers putting their own spin on Tezuka's characters while Tezuka Productions' team will do the same for Capcom characters.

You can check out the awesome Capcom vs. Tezuka poster below which I really hope they release as something I can hang up on my wall someday.

The new Capcom vs. Tezuka Characters artbook features over 100 pages of collaborative illustrations, interviews and history with the cover being the Bengus poster shown above.

Legendary fighting game artist Shinkiro is featured within the book with a Sengoku Basara vs. Dororo while Street Fighter takes on Princess Knight.

Other examples shown off include Phoenix Wright in the Osamu style and Blackjack as done by Capcom with a four-panel versus manga between the two also included in the book.

The special works are scheduled to release in April for 2,750 yen ($26.50 USD), but unfortunately, it's currently only available for pre-order on Fukkan, which doesn't ship outside of Japan.
