Capcom surprised just about everyone yesterday with the announcement that Ryu would be receiving a Fighting EX Layer crossover costume for Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition, and now we can get a couple of more looks at what's about to hit the game.

The Japanese Street Fighter Community Twitter page revealed some additional screenshots of Ryu's upcoming Kairi look including how he'll appear on the character select screen.

As for the second new image of the first crossover since Gill's Pyron costume, we also get to see a full-body shot of Ryu shouting out his signature taunt.

Players can pick up the new outfit starting tomorrow, September 16, as Kairi will also be the first new Extra Battle campaign since November 2019.

Kairi first appeared in the Street Fighter EX series though he is owned by Arika and not Capcom, so he hasn't been officially referenced in the series since outside of a Shadaloo CRI character profile.

The powerful fighter most recently appeared in Arika's Fighting EX Layer which brought back the majority of those Street Fighter EX originals along with their own full guest character in SNK's Terry Bogard.

It's interesting to see that Capcom and Arika are on working, or at least licensing, terms again, so perhaps one day we'll get to see a character like Blair Dame or Skullomania make their way back into the Street Fighter franchise.
