Modders add Super Mario 64's Bowser into Super Smash Bros. 64

Bowser wasn't in the original Super Smash Bros. 64 and wouldn't join the battle until the sequel, Super Smash Bros. Melee. But what if the big baddie had made the cut the first time around?

Well, modders and creators of the fan-made project "Smash Remix" have answered that question by adding Bowser into Super Smash Bros. 64 as a playable character. With this being the Nintendo 64 era, naturally, this version of Bowser comes from Super Mario 64.

The trailer keeps with the cinematic Smash Bros. series reveal motif. We see a quick recap of the game's original characters, followed by the additional Remix fighters: Wario, Dark Samus, Ganondorf, Dr. Mario, Falco, Lucas, and Young Link.

What follows is the letter from Peach that Mario receives in Super Mario 64. After it is read off, Mario runs over to the castle and heads in.

After breaking the star door down to meet Bowser, Mario is dropped down into the villain's lair, where he dodges a handful of attacks from the fire-breathing-boss. And just like that, Bowser joins the fight, complete with Super Mario 64 stage.

Bowser's moveset looks very similar to what we've come to know in future Smash Bros. games. He has his butt slam, spinning shell, and his various smash attacks, and even the explosives on his stage will go off if the players make contact with them.
