Voice actor for Mortal Kombat 11 states that a long-requested guest character is going to be added to the game as 'part of the new package'

Get hype

Mortal Kombat 11 fans may have something to get especially excited about as a character who has long been speculated on and hoped for as DLC has been pointed to as incoming by Richard Epcar, the voice actor for both Raiden and the Joker.

During a live Instagram question and answer session on August 31, Epcar stated directly that a certain someone will be in the game. SPOILER WARNING.

The Mortal Kombat community has been speculating for more than a year now that Ash Williams of the Evil Dead franchise, played by Bruce Campbell, would make a perfect addition to the ultra gory Mortal Kombat 11, and it seems that may be what NetherRealm Studios developers have planned.

"Oh, that's right. Bruce Campbell will be in Mortal Kombat. That's right," says Epcar in response to a fan question about the potential of Campbell's inclusion. "He's going to be a part of the new package." It's likely Epcar had a slip of the tongue here as he was answering numerous questions on a live stream format.

The "package" Epcar could be referring to might be an additional Kombat Pack, the name for the bundles of additional downloadable content that include new characters and costumes. The latest MK title was most recently updated with the new Aftermath version of the game, which added a few hours of story mode as well as three brand new roster members: Sheeva, Fujin, and Robocop.

The shotgun-toting, chainsaw-wielding undead hunter has long been a prime candidate for NRS' violence-prone series, especially after developers began adding horror and action film icons and references to their titles. Freddy Krueger kicked off this trend when he popped up as a playable guest in Mortal Kombat 2011. Jason Voorhees, Predator, and the Xenomorph from Alien found their ways into Mortal Kombat X.

Mortal Kombat 11 expanded horizons to include more action-themed characters as Terminator, Spawn, and Robocop have all been added since launch, and so we very clearly have established a table at which a figure like Ash Williams has an obvious seat.

Fans' hopes were ignited last May when an alleged data leak pointed to Joker, Nightwolf, Terminator, Sindel, Spawn, Ash Williams, Fujin, and Sheeva as incoming DLC. Since that time, all but Ash have been added.

Statements from Campbell himself in June of 2019 made it very clear that Ash would not be a Mortal Kombat 11 DLC character. Then in August of 2019 multiple players shared in-game screenshots with Ash William's name in them, seemingly in the place of the Kombat Pack where Joker ended up.

This led some to speculate that perhaps developers had called something of an audible in terms of character release plans since the aforementioned rumblings of Ash could have somewhat spoiled the surprise.

Fast forward to July of 2020 where a Vic's Basement interview with MK11 Director, Ed Boon, saw the topic addressed yet again.

"I wish... there's one I wish I could comment on," said a smirking Boon. "You know what? Perhaps in a future Vic's Basement, we can have a conversation like that."

We now add to this puzzle with the latest piece coming from Epcar's Instagram. You can view the snippet from the otherwise 30 minute segment (clipped by Masterofcold) below. Scroll down a bit below Boon's initial tweet.
