Rain gameplay trailer released for Mortal Kombat 11: Ultimate

After waiting close to a decade since the last time he was a playable member of the roster, Rain makes his grand return to Mortal Kombat 11 along with Mileena and John Rambo as part of the Ultimate update and Kombat Pack 2 next month, and now we have a good idea of what he can do.

NetherRealm Studios released the first gameplay trailer for Rain which showcases almost two minutes of unfiltered kombat.

What immediately stands out is how integral Rain's new katar weapon is to his moveset, as we see it used all of the time to extend his punch range and during all of his throws.

The demi-god's water manipulation powers seem more creative than ever before as well. He can create waves from the ground, seemingly create a shield he can ram with, turn his body into water to avoid attacks, and lock his opponents in an aqua sphere.

Lightning was on full display throughout the latter portion of the trailer as well with a fast, new electric projectile that has a cool and fitting purple and gold tone to it plus the ability to summon storm clouds above the opponent. The most crazy thing though might be that crazy fast divekick though.

The trailer also shows off more of what they're calling a 'watery realm' that we see Rain walk out of for his intro along with shooting Kotal Kahn through portals to shoot out of the other side of the screen.

One of Rain's Fatalities is of course shown off to close things out too which has the son of Argus create what appears to be a water Destructo Disk straight out of Dragon Ball which he then uses to slice Kotal in two before making the liquid jet up and tear him to absolute shreds.

Rain looks like he'll be fairly comfortable fighting from all ranges though his true home may be found in the mid-range approach with his projectiles, extended pokes and the patented water roundhouse kick allowing him to hang back just a bit instead of rushing in.
