Street Fighter 5's rollback tricks MDZ Jimmy into thinking he landed a crucial hit and costs him the round in hilarious fashion

Being able to recognize hit confirms in Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition is crucial to being a truly skilled player. Unfortunately, this can be particularly difficult to do while playing online.

MDZ Jimmy (YouTube channel) recently posted a clip that showcased himself going up against a Diamond level Akuma user. Although Jimmy was down on life, he really only needed one good hit to swing momentum in his favor and take the round.

Upon waking up from a hard knockdown, Jimmy went for an EX fireball to stuff Akuma's approach. Jimmy then proceeded to cancel into Ryu's V-Trigger 1 once the fireball connected with its target.

As the screen was frozen due to Ryu's V-Trigger 1 activation, one could clearly see Akuma in his hitstun animation. This prompted Jimmy to then dash up and combo into Ryu's heavy Dragon Punch. It really should've been an easy confirm to capitalize on by this point.

Unfortunately for Jimmy, the rollback kicked in and then showed that Akuma had actually blocked the EX fireball just as Jimmy went flying into the air with the heavy Dragon Punch special.

It appears that Jimmy should've been paying attention to Akuma's health bar instead of the character's frozen animation since the health bar reverted to its "correct" state faster than Akuma's animation.
