Hwang announced for Soul Calibur 6 and he's looking quite a bit different since the last time we saw him
He's coming in just a few days
After waiting a few months now to see who would close out the second season pass for Soul Calibur 6 following Setsuka, the answer is finally here though not exactly as many were predicting.
During the Soul Calibur Online Challenge EU West finals, Bandai Namco announced Hwang will be coming as the next DLC character with a reveal trailer which showcases a completely different take on the character along with his release date.
The trailer itself begins fairly forebodingly, as some shadow fighters surround Seong Mi-na and knock her down before she's rescued by none other than... a mysterious cloaked swordsman wielding a familiar blade.
It then immediately cuts into gameplay showing off some magic spells along with a sword that can seemingly do anything considering they're shown using it somewhat like a lance and whip as well by way of extending out similarly to Ivy's weapon of choice.
He can also use talismans for a variety of magical purposes including kicking off of it for a special boost, set a trap on the floor and something that looks like a projectile / attack boost.
If the swordplay didn't give it away before, then the kicks should have been a clear indicator for Hwang's return though they've even given his legs an overhaul too with a crazy Liu Kang-like bicycle kick and a Kamen Rider kick for a finisher.

Hwang's title in SC6 is the 'Secret Royal Blademaster' though we don't quite know what that means at the moment without his story chapter. Could it be any relation to Edge Master or is the name just a coincidence?
Though he was one of the original Soul Blade characters, this marks Hwang's first time as a playable character since Soul Calibur 3 which came out all of the way back in 2005.
As a former Hwang / Yun-seong main myself back in the day, I'm not entirely sure how to feel about the changes, but also more than open to jumping back onboard because his new toolkit is looking pretty fun in the trailer.
Alongside Hwang also comes the Character Creation Set F DLC as well which includes more Tekken customization options for King, Xiaoyu, Paul, and Leroy Smith's legendary dog Sugar.
The new Motein Pass Ruins stage will be added to the game at the same time as the DLC via a new free content update that includes Seong Mi-na's classic costume and new story chapters for Misturugi and Nightmare as well.
Hwang and the last character creation set are scheduled to release on December 2, 2020. You can take a look at the reveal trailer below.
