Rain's second Fatality contains a stone cold crazy Queen reference in Mortal Kombat 11: Ultimate that Ed Boon clued us in on months in advance

The Kombat Pack 2 characters for Mortal Kombat 11: Ultimate currently have the community digging deep into Rain, Mileena and Rambo, but one of the coolest additions happens to be a bit more surface level. All you need to do is look up to the skies and see.

Rain's second Fatality in MK11 contains a pretty crazy direct reference to Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody and second album that Ed Boon clued fans in on back in September — though it also has ties dating back almost two years.

To kick things off, literally, Rain kicks his opponent through a portal and blasts a hole in their head and chest with a powerful water jet, but that's not exactly why we're here.

After they fall back down to the ground, the camera zooms in through their chest hole and back on Rain where a spotlight shines down on him and surrounds him with the classic spirits of Reptile, Ermac and Smoke.

This is an obvious reference to Queen's iconic album cover, and we're pretty sure where NetherRealm Studios got the idea from.

Back in September, series co-creator Ed Boon began sharing actual "klues" as to the identities of the new trio of DLC characters, and the first one was lyrics to the song in question.

'Open your eyes. Look up to the skies and see.'

The thing is, Ed Boon actually shared a very, very similar setup back in 2019 with the same lyrics that featured T-shirt art with four of the palette swap ninjas in the same pose — though two of them are swapped.

As for why Reptile, Ermac and Smoke were chosen for the reference, it likely comes down to the trio being the only main ninjas not yet added into MK11. Rain was part of that group too for almost two years before finally making it in with Kombat Pack 2.

You can check out the full sequence below in 4k thanks to IGN which of course is full of NSFW violence because this is still a Mortal Kombat Fatality.
