Rumor: NetherRealm Studios recently patched Mortal Kombat 11 to hinder datamining implying future plans beyond Kombat Pack 2

On November 17, 2020, Mortal Kombat 11 fans will gain access to Mileena, Rain and Rambo via the Kombat Pack 2. There have been plenty of hints leading up to this big reveal.

Are these the final three challengers for Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate? As of this moment, we have no confirmation one way or the other. However, Thethiny, a known data miner that called Mileena, Rain and Rambo before their official unveiling, noted something interesting that happened a few days ago.

"Recently, Mortal Kombat 11 got patched to disable modding, disable the unlocker and hinder datamining," said Thethiny over Twitter. "Now they wouldn't have done this unless there's still more to come. Why would they add anti-cheat at the end of a game's life? [Doesn't] make sense."

The implication here is that there'd be no reason to hinder datamining if Mileena, Rain and Rambo were the final characters to join Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate's roster. Then again, maybe NetherRealm Studios is making an effort to disable any and all third party programs.

Before these three fighters were revealed, Thethiny noted that there were still eight more DLC character slots following the release of Aftermath. In other words, five slots remain beyond Mileena, Rain and Rambo.

Over on Reddit, Dvdgamescenter correctly named Mileena, Rain and Rambo as being part of the next pack in a now deleted post. Dvdgamescenter also noted that Havik and Daegon were being pushed back to the third pack. Characters like Quan Chi, Takeda, Shinnok, Taven and Reiko will supposedly have some role to play in a second DLC story update.

Sareena was also mentioned by Dvdgamescenter, but he has theorized that she may have been cut from the final lineup. Overall, this does seem like a strange batch of characters considering the popularity of fighters like Ermac, Reptile, Smoke, Sektor and Cyrax.

There's also something to be said about Ash Williams from the Evil Dead series. This character was suspiciously listed in an in-game message instead of Joker back in 2019. Stranger still, an official email was sent to IGN that named Ash Williams as a character in Mortal Kombat 11.

When asked about Ash Williams directly, Ed Boon noted how he wished he could comment on the possibility of Ash Williams joining the Mortal Kombat roster. He mentioned how this could be a conversation for another time.

If there really are more DLC fighters coming to Mortal Kombat 11 following the update that makes Mileena, Rain and Rambo playable, then it will likely be a few months before we hear anything on that front. As always, remember to take any rumor with a grain of salt.
