Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid to become the first fighting game with full crossplay across five separate platforms
The crew behind Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid excitedly announced Thursday that their title will soon be available on Google Stadia.
While the fact that BftG will be on a very new gaming platform that hasn't yet garnered full approval from the gaming community may or may not land as breaking news for everyone, there's a secondary implication here that's certainly worth mentioning.
Crossplay has been slowly but surely making its way from wish lists to reality over the last few years, and while it's not exactly commonplace yet, we are seeing more and more instances of it.
It was seemingly just yesterday that Rocket League and Fortnite, two of the most popular games in existence, were finally breaking ground in this arena. The list of titles that offer the chance for users from various different consoles to interact simultaneously is growing rapidly now, and it seems as though we're not all that far off from an environment wherein games that don't offer crossplay are the outliers.
The fighting game genre admittedly tends to be a bit behind the times when it comes to the evolution of gaming practices, but Battle for the Grid will soon stand in stark contrast to that trend. The Power Rangers fighter is currently available to play across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Microsoft Windows, and will be adding a fifth platform (Stadia) come June 1.
