Maximilian: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is bigger than any other fighting game has ever been, but the franchise will never be able to top itself now

Prominent fighting game streamer Maximilian recently weighed in on the immense success the Super Smash Bros. franchise is currently experiencing, citing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as "the absolute limelight of the fighting game community."

He notes that it's bigger and better than any Smash title before it as well as the likes of other fighting game icons such as Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, and Street Fighter 3: Third Strike. That said, the way developers have blown the experience up to insane heights makes for an impossibly high bar that likely won't be elevated further in the future.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate currently boasts a whopping 74-character roster with even more DLC fighters en route. With the inclusion of third party icons, what was once a celebration of Nintendo characters has evolved into a celebration of video games in general... "Video Game All-Stars: The Game" as Max puts it.

"Smash has now transcended what was just a little Nintendo fighting game into this giant marketing conglomerate game that represents the entire f***** video game industry," he says. "It's not just Smash Bros. anymore."

Max argues that this places us in the golden era for Smash, which is a wonderful thing to enjoy and marvel at, but also brings with it something of an opposite of a silver lining: the fact that developers will likely never be able to top this.

All of the above is brought up within the first three minutes of Max's 10 minute rant, so there's plenty more to the story for you to hear. Check it out below and then share in the comments whether or not you agree with Max's thoughts on the Smash situation.
