Classic Subway stage coming to Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath via new RetroKade arena, Ermac spotted in background

Mortal Kombat 11 is just a few days away from undergoing the largest overhaul we've seen since launch as the May 26 Aftermath update will add in new gameplay mechanics, characters, enders, costumes, and more.

The official Mortal Kombat Twitter has shared a glimpse of one of the new classic stages en route to MK11 via the special RetroKade arena. Read on to see how developers have cleverly implemented MK3's Subway stage into modern day kombat.

Instead of simply bringing back the Soul Chamber, Kombat Temple, Subway, and others, developers chose to place all of these nostalgic arenas within one new stage. The foreground appears to be something of a movie set, and if you traverse far enough to the left or to the right you'll see old arcade cabinets and some cute promotional material.

In today's image we also see that Ermac shows up in his MK 2011 form, suspended from the rafters above via rope and pully made out of souls. Projectors in the foreground seem to be the main source of the classic backdrops, which appear to be widely unaltered from their original forms.

Though Stage Fatalities are coming with the Aftermath update, we're not sure whether or not you'll be able to perform classic stage kills on RetroKade. Given that the images are technically projections, our guess is that you won't be able to knock your foe in front of a speeding subway car... but you never know with NetherRealm.

Perusing around and in front of the MK3 stage is just as intriguing as checking out the nostalgic arena, and you can do both via the image right here:
