Killer Instinct fans might be excited to hear about some news that came about earlier today. It's been all but outright stated that we're due for a Killer Instinct Cup 2020 announcement in 2-3 weeks.

"I’m extremely proud of the Killer Instinct Community for making waves these past few months," said Brandon Alexander on Twitter. Notably, Alexander is the head of the Killer Instinct World Cup and owner of Ultra Arcade. "Happy to say that after talking with Dave, we are making moves to get you all an announcement within the next 2-3 weeks. All I can say right now is that, we’re back."

Interestingly enough, there was an icon of Fulgore, a classic character from the Killer Instinct series, sitting above the words "Killer Instinct World Cup" that was attached to the Tweet.

"It's official, we’re back," responded the KIWorldCup Twitter account. "Stay tuned."

The "KIWC" hashtag was attached to this Tweet. This abbreviation almost certainly stands for "Killer Instinct World Cup."

Recently, it was revealed that Killer Instinct, Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath Edition, Them's Fightin' Herds, and Skullgirls 2nd Encore would be the main games for EVO Online 2020 despite not being part of the original lineup.

While it was never outright stated, Killer Instinct's inclusion (along with the other aforementioned titles) is very likely due to the perception that the game hosts a superior online experience when compared to games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate or Street Fighter 5.

As the COVID-19 pandemic is still seen as a problem throughout the world, a Killer Instinct Cup 2020 circuit would probably most be a series of online tournament. Of course, we'll just have to stay tuned for more details.
