Ever since we learned that EVO 2020 was going to migrate online roughly two weeks back, the entire fighting game community has been simultaneously curious and understandably somewhat pessimistic about how well transitioning the largest yearly fighting game event online could possibly go.

EVO staff revealed Wednesday evening that it would actually be four titles not previously on the EVO 2020 lineup that would have open online brackets and that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate would seemingly not have a presence at all.

The Smash community has had some time to react to this, and we've rounded up a handful of tweets and YouTube responses from notable figures in an attempt to garner an idea as to what the masses may be thinking.

We've got reactions from TSM|ZeRo, TSM|Leffen, T1|ANTi, GG|Seagull Joe, Larry Lurr, BC|Mr. R, BDG|Mr. E, Liquid|HungryBox, and Aliance|Armada.

Despite their franchise apparently having no representation at this year's big dance, most are actually happy things have played out this way. For many competitors, online play is still too far removed from offline play and is ultimately not viewed as a valid means valid competition.

You can view the tweets from ZeRo, Leffen, and others via the two images here. Both Hungrybox and Armada's videos wherein they offer their reactions are embedded below. Also, be sure to check out our speculations as to why EVO chose not to include Smash this year.
