Granblue Fantasy: Versus has only been available for less than two months in its home region of Japan where it seems to be making quite the splash among FGC members and fans in general.

The game's publisher in the region Cygames announced that sales for Granblue Fantasy: Versus have now crossed 200,000 copies in Japan alone when physical and digital versions are combined.

"Thanks to all of your patronage, Granblue Fantasy Versus surpassed 200,00 in Japanese sales," said Granblue's official Twitter account as translated by Siliconera. "We plan to add more DLC characters one after the other with Soriz, Djeeta, Zooey, and more, so please look forward to it!"

The fighting game spin-off of the popular mobile game reached an already impressive 86,000 copies sold in its first week on store shelves in Japan physically, and as of March 15, GBVS has moved over 111,000 PS4 discs.

It's difficult to compare how strong that is for a brand new fighter released in the region, but going back to its launch week, Granblue managed to outsell the likes of Street Fighter 5, Tekken 7, Dragon Ball FighterZ and pretty much every other notable launch the genre saw the past decade.

As for how the game is doing in the West, there's little data to go off of yet considering it's been out for less than one month in North America meaning we'll have to wait for the March NPD number to see if Cygames' first push across the globe can chart here too.

European players had to wait until yesterday, March 27, to purchase the PS4 version of the game though the Steam version has been available worldwide since March 13.

Soriz is the next character slated to launch in Granblue Fantasy: Versus on April 7 followed by Djeeta and Zooey to close out the game's first character pass. A second one will follow though the only fighter we know from that expansion thus far is Belial, who is featured prominently in the game's RPG Mode.

Our review for Granblue Fantasy: Versus hails the game as one of the best new fighting game properties this generation that still has us coming back for more.
