A new Mortal Kombat 11 DLC character appears to have leaked via an official email

Probably not much of a surprise to anyone who's been paying attention

Mortal Kombat 11 just wrapped up its first year of content this month with the release of Spawn in the Kombat Pack, and now it appears as though we now have a glimpse at what will likely be coming in the game's near future.

A new character has seemingly leaked as a DLC character for MK11 through text found in an official email received by outlets like IGN which reference a very specific groovy guy in its third-party trademarks. Potential future roster spoilers ahead.

Below listings for the Terminator and Joker in a copy of the email features the text "ASH" character from "ARMY OF DARKNESS" which should come as little surprise to anyone who has been paying attention to previous data-mining of Mortal Kombat 11's files.

Files regarding Ash Williams' intro dialogue had been uncovered shortly after the game's release in 2019 alongside the other Kombat Pack 1 characters in Shang Tsung, Nightwolf, Sindel, Terminator and Joker along with some other unannounced characters we'll get back to in a bit.

Once these discoveries started to gain attention, however, Ash's longtime actor Bruce Campbell stepped in to try and quash the internet rumor, but talk about the character persisted especially after Shang Tsung's DLC trailer featured the sound of a chainsaw revving which is one of the character's signature weapons.

"When I posted that graphic killing this rumor, I had never heard any hint, no one approached me about it, my reps, nothing," said Bruce Campbell on a podcast in 2019. "So I went, 'no, this is wrong! I'm not doing s*** with that. Sorry. Bye!'"

Ash has also popped up in a notification within Mortal Kombat 11 as well listed alongside the Kombat Pack DLC characters instead of Joker perhaps suggesting the horror comedy icon had at one point meant to be released much earlier.

It is very interesting to note that it's not Evil Dead that's referenced in Ash's trademark information but specifically the third film in the franchise 'Army of Darkness.'

The 1992 film sees the unlucky survivor transported back to the Middle Ages where he was tasked with stopping the Deadites once again using his signature chainsaw arm and shotgun.

Using this version of the character as its basis for Mortal Kombat 11 potentially gives Ash the most reference material in terms of action and memorable one-liners to work with in a fighting game context.

A Kombat Pack 2 has not been officially announced by NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. though a number of other characters were data-mined alongside Ash and the first year combatants.

Returning fighters in Sheeva and Fujin also had intro dialogue discovered likely pointing to them joining Ash in the second season of content if all goes according to the team's plans.

This is the first piece of info we've gotten about Ash's potential inclusion in MK11 in quite some time, so hopefully we won't have to wait too much longer to learn more about what's coming next for Mortal Kombat 11.
