Daigo Umehara: I need to rethink my playstyle with Guile completely in Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition

For Season 5 of Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition, RB|Daigo Umehara has been adamant that he'll be sticking with Guile rather than switching to a character like Kage or Ryu. Recently, Daigo has acknowledged that he'll need to "revolutionize" the playstyle for Guile in order to make it work.

Thanks to the effort of FGC Translated, we have an understanding of Daigo's thoughts on the matter. A video has been uploaded that provides details on this.

"I need to start a revolution for Guile as a character," stated Daigo. "Because the best that you can do with his defensive style is what I did in Topanga Championship."

Using Guile, Daigo managed to come in 4th place at Topanga Championship 2020. GyoGun|Mago, RZR|Fuudo, and Rohto|Tokido inevitably ranked higher than him.

"So I need to rethink my playstyle completely," declared Daigo. "And the thing is, this character is capable of withstanding that revolution."

"I know there aren't other Guile players thinking that way," continued Daigo. "But I do have a vision of Guile that I think would be better if I could achieve it. I haven't been able to achieve that though. I'm far from achieving that in real matches."

Although Guile's archetype has typically been known as a defensive wall throughout the history of the Street Fighter series, Daigo appears to believe that offense might be the key to pushing Guile's potential.
