EVO 2020's March registration rankings still has Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on top but Granblue Fantasy: Versus now sits at number 3

Is it all about that new game smell?

EVO 2020 is gearing up to be perhaps one of the event's biggest years ever with nine mainstage fighting games to bring in competitors from all over the world.

Now going into its second month of registration, EVO organizer Joey 'Mr. Wizard' Cuellar has provided an update to show which games currently have the highest number of entrants at the start of March — spoiler: it's Super Smash Bros. Ultimate again.

It's hardly surprising to see Smash Ultimate still topping the chart considering it was the highest-entered game of 2019, and its recently announced Smash World Tour is probably going to help it going forward too — even though EVO currently isn't one of its official events.

Starting with number two though, we do start to see some early shake ups from February where Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition holds the month two silver medal after Tekken 7 had it.

What's perhaps most interesting is Granblue Fantasy: Versus has also moved up to number three, which puts Tekken down at four for now. As a brand new title, GBVS is probably going to see strong numbers with people trying to get in on the Arc World Tour.

Granblue also likely benefits from having interest and support from pretty much all sides of the community like we saw with Samurai Shodown and Dragon Ball FighterZ before.

Speaking of Dragon Ball, it's also moved up to be number five though Soul Calibur 6 slipped down two places.

Obviously, game registration itself isn't a competition, but it is still interesting to see the trends the FGC finds itself in this year where Smash is still ridiculously popular and Street Fighter 5 is still pulling in early numbers despite EVO not being part of the Capcom Pro Tour this year currently.

There's still plenty of time for things to change as well considering EVO 2020 doesn't start until July 31, and we all know how many in the FGC like to register at the last minute. You can take a look at the March rankings below.
