Mike Z banned from Combo Breaker 2021 following Skullgirls community request
Mike "Mike Z" Zaimont, one of the individuals behind the creation of the Skullgirls series, has been banned from Combo Breaker 2021. This has come as a result of the Skullgirls community's recommendation that Zaimont be banned from commentary and competition at Skullgirls events.
"Our goal is to create a gaming space that is welcoming for all participants, regardless of their race, gender, sexual orientation, appearance, age, disabilities, or other protected statuses," said the issued statement. "Due to this, we believe Mike Zaimont, also known as ‘Mike Z,’ should no longer be welcome on commentary or participating in events in the Skullgirls community."
Fourteen members of the community, including event organizers, commentators, Discord admins, and players, are recommending that Mike Z be banned from commentary indefinitely and from competition for two years (until July 30, 2022) as a result of his actions. They also recommend he be prohibited from competing in online and offline events for two years.
This request was posted to Twitter by Sheila "dapurplesharpie" Moore, one of the fourteen representatives.
Tournament organizer for Combo Breaker Rick "The Hadou" Thiher quickly responded on Twitter with a message to state that Zaimont would not be welcome at Combo Breaker 2021, for the reasons mentioned in the request.
