Ding dong, Diddy Kong's infinite combo in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is gone

But he's hopefully a better character overall now after the update

Diddy Kong was one of the most feared characters during the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U days of competition, but he's never really found the same stride in Ultimate where his big saving grace came down mostly to an infinite combo.

Getting trapped on a platform against Diddy in Smash Ultimate would spell doom for players as they would get pummeled with banana peels for up to minutes on end, but that danger is apparently no more following the game's newest update.

Last night, Nintendo released Min Min as the newest DLC fighter for Ultimate and alongside her came the game's version 8.0.0 update which added balance adjustments for much of the expanded roster, Diddy Kong included.

Now, Diddy's down special banana toss has been nerfed to extend the time needed to toss the peel a second time after the initial throw which was meant to take aim and seemingly remove the infinite loop from play.

That doesn't mean the character himself was ultimately nerfed, however, as his dash attack, side tilt, down Smash and forward aerial were all buffed in terms of speed, damage, combo-ability and / or range.

Many Smash players are now trying to determine whether those buffs are significant enough to make up for removing one of his highest-damaging techniques though it's hard to equate anything in regular play to an infinite combo.

At least now we won't be subjected to banana combos that go on for over a minute like we saw in competition at EVO Japan earlier this year as shown in the clip below.
