Just how different are Zato-1 and Eddie in Guilty Gear Strive? HiFight breaks them down side by side to Xrd and there's some surprising changes

A lot of similar moves that are functionally a bit different it seems

Earlier this week, we received our second new Guilty Gear Strive in less than a month which gave us a much extended look at the gameplay for Zato-1 and Millia Rage as they'll appear in the new entry.

Fighting game content creator HiFight has now put together a gameplay comparison video which looks at Zato's moveset side-by-side to how they looked and functioned in the Xrd series.

In practice, many of Eddie's shadow attacks appear very similar in nature when shown next to their Xrd counterparts, but they also seem to give them completely different functions from the past.

The grounded shadow buzz saw from Xrd has apparently been replaced by a wave of ground drills which have way more hitstun and combo ability. Eddie stays by Zato for the move which seems to allow him to go for follow ups to the last drill — maybe really good for resets and setting traps.

As for the shadow shark pillar launcher, it too looks to be gone and changed with a shadow frog. This time the move shifts gears to be a corner carry and wall bounce attack instead.

One thing that's also super apparent from watching the footage next to each other is how differently Eddie is styled now. Before he really looked like a lab experiment with definition, and now the Forbidden Beast appears much more primal as a amorphous, solid black shadow.

You can check out the side-by-side comparison of the double dose of Zato and Eddie below along with links to his previous Guilty Gear Strive breakdowns for Millia and Ramlethal.
