Masahiro Sakurai declares that there have been difficulties with the teleworking for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's ARMS challenger

Masahiro Sakurai's segment for the Famitsu Column was recently released to the public. Thanks to the efforts of PushDustIn and Japaneseswitch, we've learned of a few difficulties associated with teleworking to develop Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's DLC during the COVID-19 global pandemic.

It's been noted by Sakurai that it can be difficult to discuss sensitive matters while children and family are around. This along with troubles with internet speed, communications with the rest of the team can often be an ordeal.

Sakurai has also noted that — more than he could ever imagine — the home environment is just not well-suited as a replacement for the workplace. Issues with equipment require solutions that cost money.

Sora Co. Ltd, the Japanese video game company agency founded by Masahiro Sakurai and his wife, Michiko Sakurai, are purchasing equipment from Amazon for those working on Smash DLC. Once the pandemic is over, acquisitions will be owned by those that needed them in the first place.

Despite the difficulties, Sakurai has noted that the majority of the development team actually prefer to telework from home. Understandably, there's less stress with teleworking compared to commuting to work.

The ARMS challenger for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Fighters Pass Vol. 2 is scheduled to be revealed on June 22, 2020. Unfortunately, there will be no announcements on this date about what will come next.

While this is purely speculation on my part, I suspect that there probably would've been another character reveal by now if it weren't for the COVID-19 pandemic that's kept Sakurai and the rest of the development team confined to their homes.

Still, it's easy to see how Sakurai and the rest of the development team are doing the best that they can under the circumstances.
