Street Fighter 6's story mode could be a greatest hits version of the franchise and Street Fighter 5 needs more zoning characters
EventHubs Podcast episode 107
We're looking to both the distant and nearer future in this week's discussion as Catalyst and I speculate and ponder the potential for the end of Street Fighter 5 and the beginnings of Street Fighter 6.
The latter is more than likely in development at this point, and we have to wonder as to the initial design and setting choices Capcom is making. Given the rich history of the Street Fighter franchise, we have an idea for a particular spot on the timeline that we think would be particularly intriguing for the next title.
As explored in a recent article on the site, we imagine what it'd look like if SF6 were set farther back in the past than even Street Fighter 1. Older characters such as Gen, Oro, Akuma, and M. Bison could all join as younger versions of themselves, but this would also allow for deceased figures such as Chun-Li's father, Go Hibiki, and Goutetsu to appear on a playable roster.
The two of us have a few imaginative approaches as to how developers could pull this off while still including the likes of non-negotiables like Ryu and Chun-Li.
So as not to get too far ahead of the times, we also delve into the upcoming final chapter of SF5. With five additional characters en route, Catalyst has analyzed what sorts of gameplay styles the game could use to balance out rush down, the style overly represented among top tiers.
