EVO Online registration is now open; accepting sign ups from North America, Japan, South Korea, and Europe
It's certainly been a tumultuous trail to tread as the fighting game community has been maneuvering to try to hold on to any semblance of traditional major competitions amid the chaos of COVID-19, and while many events have been outright canceled or postponed, EVO will still be held... online.
We learned a few weeks back that the largest yearly fighting game competition would be holding four open online tournaments for the titles Killer Instinct, Them's Fightin Herds, Skullgirls, and Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath. Registration is now officially open for all four.
This being a tournament to be played over the internet presents some obvious challenges/restrictions, and so organizers have broken up the planet into three regions: North America, Japan/Korea, and Europe. Players will only be facing opponents from within their respective regions, meaning we're essentially getting a total of 12 brackets and should be crowning 12 champions once things are all said and done.
It's free to enter any and all of the four featured titles, though attendees do have the option to donate to Project HOPE to help with the global impact of COVID-19.
Those who donate $25 or more will receive a physical EVO lanyard, (pictured below) a routine trinket for those who attend the yearly major.
You can head over to the EVO home page to begin the registration process. There you'll also find plenty of additional information on the event as well as answers to frequently asked questions.
