Du "NuckleDu" Dang announced via his Twitter account last night that he will seemingly retire from competitive gaming effective immediately.

The announcement came four days after the 2016 Capcom Cup champion was reported to have been injured in an accident on July 2.

"I will be putting my controller down now," said Dang in his update. "Furthermore, I will step away from social media in general since I can't offer you guys anything anymore. Life is short and unforgiving. Call loved ones, make amends, go outside, and don't let social media consume you. Take care. <3"

NuckleDu's friend and training partner, Kevin "DualKevin" Barrios, initially reported Dang had been involved in a "really bad car crash" though no details on the incident are publicly available.

This immediately led to an outpouring of compassion and support from hundreds if not thousands of fighting game community members from around the world for a player who has done much to advance the scene and give others opportunities.

The only other update came from Barrios later on July 2 where he said Dang is "expected to make a long but full recovery."

Dang carries the unique accomplishment of being Street Fighter 5's first Capcom Cup champion in 2016 though the 24-year-old made his name known throughout Florida, then the United States and then the world in both Street Fighter 4 and Street Fighter X Tekken — being a Capcom Cup finalist in each title.

NuckleDu's accolades include a multitude of major victories like Combo Breaker 2017 and East Coast Throwdown 2018 along with appearances in large-scale invitationals including both ELEAGUE events for SF5. Throughout his time in the FGC, he's proven to be a very popular and beloved player.

In 2018 and 2019, Dang sponsored multiple players from the Florida and Vietnamese communities with the opportunity to go to EVO those years to cover their flights, hotels and tournament registration.

We here at EventHubs wish NuckleDu a speedy recovery and success in what he decides to pick up next.
