It's been just over a week since we first learned of the newest Mortal Kombat film project in the form of the animated feature Scorpion's Revenge, and now we have our first glimpse as to how the fighting game characters will appear in their latest incarnations.

Warner Bros. through IGN has released the first official trailer for Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge which appears to be a new take on the story of the first MK video game from the 90's with some new twists and turns.

Scorpion in the straight-to-home-video feature will be played once again by Patrick Seitz, who voiced the fire demon in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, 2011's Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat X. Ron Yuan took over the role with MK11.

Though they don't have many lines within the trailer, this is also our first opportunity to hear Community's Joel McHale step into the shoes of Johnny Cage alongside Dexter's Jennifer Carpenter.

Since this seems to be another retailing of the original conflict, many of the characters from MK1 and MK9 appear throughout the video in various forms including: Sub-Zero, Kano, Raiden, Shang Tsung, Quan Chi, Liu Kang, Kitana, Reptile, Jax and the big man himself, Goro.

Not much else can be gleamed from the story in the initial look here aside from the fact that we see Scorpion battling Quan Chi, and Scorpion also appears in multiple shots with what appears to be a healed hole in his stomach — perhaps someone tried a fatality on him and failed?

No official release date was announced with the trailer, but Scorpion's Revenge will be coming to digital and home platforms sometime in Spring 2020. This is also completely separate from the live action movie adaptation scheduled to hit theaters in 2021.
