Better late than never I suppose

The Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme vs. series has been a staple of FGC event side tournaments for years now, and fans of the franchise will be able to enjoy a new entry on consoles later this year.

Bandai Namco announced Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme vs. Maxiboost ON will be releasing on PlayStation 4 in 2020, not just in Japan but worldwide, featuring a ridiculous 183 Mobile Suits to choose from.

There are 36 different series / works represented in the arena fighting game from the original Mobile Suit Gundam all the way up to Iron-Blooded Orphans.

Interestingly, Bandai Namco still seems to be following their strange release schedule of putting out a console port of Gundam Versus that's a full game behind where the arcades sit in Japan.

Maxiboost ON originally hit the arcades back in 2016 while its direct sequel, Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme vs. 2, has been available since 2018.

This follows the previous console-exclusive Gundam Versus title that released back in 2017, which changed a number of things up in the formula and not always for the better.

Like most recent Gundam games, Maxiboost ON will not feature an English dub though it will have subtitles for the Japanese though hopefully it has a better localization than Gundam Versus had — song titles were still listed in Japanese in that game.

Luckily, Maxiboost ON also appears to be bringing back offline split-screen play, another feature lacking from Versus, and up to four players online for high-paced 2v2 action.

No release date was given with the announcement outside of the 2020 window. You can check out the cinematic trailer for the game below.
