We're on the verge of seeing The Joker's official gameplay trailer in Mortal Kombat 11 as series co-creator Ed Boon mentioned that it will be dropping "soon." The DLC character is set for release on January 28, and we're badly itching to see more of the fighter that we have yet to see much of.

Since every Mortal Kombat 11 character comes equipped with a bevy of unlockable alternate skins, I thought it might be fun to take a look at some of the various looks the major Batman villain has sported over the years for potential outfits he might have in the game. Here are five different Joker looks that should be skins in Mortal Kombat 11.

Now, above all else, I think the look that has the best chance of making it in as a skin and that I would like to see most is Joaquin Phoenix's Joker from the most recent film. An artist actually created a 3D model of what that might look like, which we previously reported on, but since it's something we already discussed I have left it off of this list.

You can also check out how fans voted in a recent poll for potential Joker skins from YouTuber True Under Dawg Gaming, if you're fiending for even more on the subject.

With that out of the way, let's get right into it!

Batman: The Animated Series

As far as iconic and memorable versions of The Joker go, I feel like the one from Batman: The Animated Series is way up at the top of the list.

The cartoon show debuted in September of 1992 and featured the artistic stylings of Bruce Timm, with a Joker voiced by one of the best voice actors to ever play the character, Mark Hamill, providing the voice work. From the pointy black hair to the funky purple and green suit, this version of the Joker is one that many people think of first when hearing the villain's name.

I'd imagine that adding a skin based on an animated series into the hyper-realistic graphics that Mortal Kombat 11 sports could be difficult, but NetherRealm Studios' abilities when it comes to aesthetic and cosmetics is top-notch, so I'd love to see them take a crack at it.

The Dark Knight

Christopher Nolan's 2008 film "The Dark Knight" introduced the world to a version of the Joker that would go on to become legendary. Matching the tone of the trilogy, Heath Ledger's interpretation of the character was dark, gritty, and realistic, bringing a fresh take to storied Batman nemesis.

Ledger's Joker sees the clown with rough, beat-up face paint, heavy black makeup surrounding his eyes, stringy green hair, and dingy red paint over his mouth — which has been cut at the corners to make for a larger smile.

A green vest, thin tie, and a purple overcoat complete the villain's look making for a Joker that would actually fit very well into the world of Mortal Kombat 11.

Injustice 2

It only seems right to have NetherRealm's own design of The Joker from the Injustice series make a return in Mortal Kombat 11. While the Joker from Injustice: Gods Among Us is closer to his standard look, it's Injustice 2 where we see a more original take on the fighter.

In Injustice 2, the centerpiece of Joker's ensemble is a large, purple trenchcoat. This version is shirtless underneath the coat and has the word "HA" written in paint (or blood) on his stomach.

Injustice 2's Joker feels like a younger, more contemporary iteration of the classic baddie, and it would be cool to see it come back in Mortal Kombat 11.

Tim Burton's Batman

Another fantastic depiction of The Joker came from the incomparable Jack Nicholson in Tim Burton's 1989 Batman film. He's silly, he's intense, and his look is another that would make a perfect alternate costume in Mortal Kombat 11.

Nicholson's Joker is cleaner in presentation, dressed to the nines with a sharp purple suit and plaid pants. This version of the Joker has a couple of unique flourishes too, namely the fedora and the large necktie, which add even more character to the maniacal villain.

I imagine NRS will add classic lines like "you ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?" as fight intro quotes for the Joker, and I hope they add this look into his wardrobe to complete the package.

Batman: The Killing Joke

This list would just not be complete without the goofy tourist Joker of Batman: The Killing Joke. Certainly the biggest departure from the norm of the bunch, this look would be an excellent and unique nod to the Joker fans out there.

The getup is sillier than what you'd normally expect the Joker to wear, with a Hawaiian shirt, fedora, camera around the neck, and shorts bringing it together. However, considering what the Joker does in the famous scene where he's seen wearing this, it actually might be the most sinister of the entire lot.
