Force Combat, a fan-made Star Wars fighting game focusing on the galaxy's most powerful Jedi and Sith warriors, set to release January 15

How long before it gets shut down by Disney?

Star Wars has a bit of a complicated history in the realm of fighting games with its not great outing in Masters of Teräs Käsi on the original PlayStation back in 97 though the series' inclusion into Soul Calibur 4 marked an odd yet fun experience... unless you're fighting against Yoda.

A solo developer going simply by Lastjawa is setting out to prove lightsaber duels can make for good Star Wars fighting game fare with the fan-game Force Combat which is scheduled to get a free and public alpha release tomorrow, January 15.

Force Combat seems to take some obvious inspirations from the more recent Mortal Kombat titles minus the blood and Fatalities including different arcade mode towers and even a Shang Tsung-like fireball game from Emperor Palpatine.

The game's roster is made up of Jedi and Sith warriors from pretty much every part of Star Wars' long and complicated history from the original trilogy, prequels, new trilogy and even some now non-canon fighters like Mara Jade.

I know what you're thinking. Isn't this going to get shut down by Disney immediately?

The answer to that is almost assuredly though Force Combat has seen regular updates and developments since April 2019, so Lastjawa has survived this long under the watchful gaze of the empire.

They claim to not be asking for money for the project, but Lastjawa is running a Patreon account where they apparently plan on giving away some custom-made arcade cabinets featuring the title. That seems very doubtful to ever see completion, however.

Force Combat's most recent trailer features a roster including Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Rey, Kylo Ren, Obi Wan Kenobi, Darth Maul, Count Dooku, Ahsoka Tano, General Grievous, Yoda and Leia among others. The game will be available on PC if it actually manages to see release.
