Sony will be skipping E3 for the second year in a row

PlayStation 5 details will have to surface from somewhere else

Sony has announced that, for the second year in a row, they will not be attending E3 this year. As a result, we shouldn't expect any announcements regarding the PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 at this event.

"After thorough evaluation SIE has decided not to participate in E3 2020," declared Sony to IGN. "We have great respect for the ESA as an organization, but we do not feel the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year. We will build upon our global events strategy in 2020 by participating in hundreds of consumer events across the globe."

Notably, Sony elected to skip E3 2019 last year. Seemingly in its place, Sony have periodically been releasing "State of Play" videos that bear similarities to the Nintendo Directs.

The PlayStation 5 is currently slated for a Holiday 2020 release. In other words, we should have our hands on the new console sometime between October and December this year.

One might've thought that details about the console would be revealed at E3 2020, but this will obviously not be the case. Instead, we'll have to look towards other programs for information regarding the upcoming console.

"Our focus is on making sure fans feel part of the PlayStation family and have access to play their favorite content," continued Sony. "We have a fantastic line up of titles coming to PlayStation 4, and with the upcoming launch of PlayStation 5, we are truly looking forward to a year of celebration with our fans."

E3 2020 will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center starting on June 9 before concluding on June 11.
