Update: Pokémon Nintendo Direct stream is live

In usual Nintendo fashion, the company announced their latest Direct stream just two days in advance which is now about to be upon us.

The new Pokémon-themed Nintendo Direct is scheduled to start shortly at 6:30 a.m. PT / 9:30 a.m. ET and is supposed to last for around 20 minutes in total.

No other details about what to expect were given, so no one really knows if this is tied to content regarding Pokémon Sword and Shield or something else upcoming.

Of course, Super Smash Bros. fans are chomping at the bit for more information about the fifth member of the Fighter Pass though it's feeling less likely that we'll see anything for it today — you never know with Nintendo though.

There's also the previously announced Pokémon Home and Sleep games / applications that have had pretty much nothing shown since their reveals during a Pokémon Direct last year.

If the final character in the Smash Ultimate Fighter Pass is a Pokémon, the most likely candidate for a starter is probably Rillaboom for the grass type since the previous two in Greninja and Incineroar have represented water and fire respectively.
