Lucina, R.O.B., Mario, and two others are the best beginner characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate according to Jtails

If you're new to the Smash series and want to get in on the action, then you might feel a little intimidated about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's 79 fighter roster (which is still expanding). Who exactly is the ideal character to learn how to play?

Jtails recently released a video that talks about this very subject. In particular, he outlines the five challengers as being the best for beginners.

The selection process here seems to be fairly simple. Those that are outlined in the video tend to have strengths that help cover problems that beginners struggle with initially.

For example, challengers like Kirby, Pit (and Dark Pit), and R.O.B. are highlighted thanks to their ability to recover from long distances. Mario and Lucina have recovery options that are difficult to contest even if they aren't able to achieve as much distance.

All five of these choices also tend to have access to very solid and straightforward smash attacks. It's worth mentioning that forward smash tends to be an option that's frequently used by newcomers to the franchise.

Finally, these combatants also tend to have decent combo options. A player can learn how to create juggle scenarios by using most of these five characters.

Although Pit and his Echo Fighter are both declared to be easy choices to start with, Jtails does note that Lucina is a far superior choice compared to Marth. Although their movesets are similar, Lucina doesn't require immaculate spacing to be good with. And yet, her gameplay style still rewards playing a solid footsies game.

While these characters are easy to learn, it doesn't necessarily mean that they're just as easy to master. Despite the simple learning curve, it takes a lot of work to be successful with them at a high level.
