Daigo: I'm pretty satisfied with Season 5 Ryu, I'm saying this because he's not my main in Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition

'It's hard to main Ryu'

Although Ryu was considered to be a top tier in Season 1 of Street Fighter 5's lifespan, he really dropped off hard after Akuma was released in Season 2 and Ryu was nerfed. Despite CYG|Daigo's attempts to make Ryu work in that second season, he ultimately switched to Guile and has never really come back to Ryu since then.

The Season 5 patch has applied some quality of life changes that better emphasize Ryu's strengths. While this apparently has Daigo satisfied, he apparently has no intention on maining Ryu at the moment.

"But yeah, I'm pretty satisfied with Ryu to be honest," stated Daigo. "I'm saying this because he's not my main."

Earlier, Daigo declared Ryu to be something more akin to his hobby. He was likely referring to his gameplay sessions outside of tournaments where Capcom Pro Tour points and the like are on the line.

"But somehow, I feel like [Ryu] is good enough now," declared Daigo. Still, he had some doubts about the character's overall potential. "I think his power to coerce things to the opponent isn't strong enough."

"I think he's good enough to play with," continued Daigo. "I'm sorry if your main is Ryu. It's hard to main Ryu. But now, he's at least part of this game. He at least has a role in the game."

Needless to say, it sounds like Daigo won't be returning to Ryu for Season 5 if these statements are anything to go by.
